Prep & Mods
11/96
Maintenance prep this month:
| Changed oil & filter (Spectro 10w40, Honda filter) | |
| Re-glued the throttle grip with Hondaline grip glue. This is some sticky, stinky, quick setting goo. I use a Canyon Bar Dancer to tie down the front end of the bike in the truck. It works great, but it puts a lot of pull on the grip and worked it loose. | |
| Cleaned and lubed the chain (WD40) |
The mods made this month included installation of a Lockhart Phillips muffler bracket and TBR race foot pegs. The LP bracket is a nice piece of work. Billet aluminum instead of stamped, it's very sturdy but about half the weight of the stock bracket. The bracket bolted right up, though I had to trim away part of the right side body work to clear it.
I've always had a problem with the stock footpegs on the F2. I like to move around on the pegs a lot, but the grip provided by the combination of the rubber on the pegs and the sole of my Alpinstar boots forced me to lift my foot instead of sliding it around. The TBR pegs are billet pieces with ridges to provide some traction (not much), but the ball ends provided plenty of grip. The left peg slipped right into place, but I had to do some work with a file to get the right side to fit correctly.
